Burn Testing
This week for school, I did an assignment testing the fiber content of several different textiles. You can learn more about this technique here. My husband actually rushed in when I was performing the tests, because I accidentally made the fire alarm go off. Oops.
I was really excited that one of the fabrics I tested was made of silk, because I got the fabric at a thrift store for $2/yard, and silk tends to be much more expensive. The questions I still have regarding burn tests revolve around fabrics made with mixed fibers (for example, the fibers in stretch denim, or cotton polyester fabrics). I would like to do more research regarding the results of testing fabrics that may be made of more than one thing.
Cotton
Silk
Acetate
Spandex (this smelled nasty, yall)
