Pattern Review: McCall's 7969

So, my husband is in the process of building a computer, which is why the background of my photos are full of random boxes and shadows.... there are computer parts alllll over my floor right now.
Anyways.
This is the famous M7969. I swear there was a month there in the spring where my feed was just full of these dresses, and honestly.... I get the hype. Those sleeves are so big, I could likely hide all sorts of things inside of them.

I made this dress from 3 yards of Cotton Gingham I got from fabric.com. I've been pinning tons of gingham dresses lately, so I bought the fabric without knowing what I was going to make out of it. It's light and floaty, and perfect for an Arizona summer. I actually had a hard time squeezing that skirt out of the 3 yards.... the way the pattern has it drafted, it is HUGE. I cut mine slightly smaller, and ended up using scraps to make the bias tape instead of cutting the provided pattern pieces. I also ended up cutting a size smaller than I measured into. I find that big 4 patterns have way more ease than I usually care for, and this pattern was no exception.

I think I will definitely make this dress again. Its a pretty simple make, and although it's a lot of gathering, I found the process rather meditative. I also love that there's only 5 pieces to cut out! Next time, I think I might make the skirt piece slightly smaller, and maybe not use bright orange thread for parts of it 😅
